I know that making a decision to see a therapist is not an easy one. Finding a therapist that you feel confident and comfortable with is paramount. So let me tell you a little about me and I hope to have the opportunity to meet and to learn about you. I work with all populations age 12 and up who have a wide range of concerns and traumatic experiences that they wish to work on in therapy. I have a particular passion for working with military, law enforcement, first responders and their families, and I also really enjoy working with teens. I think my office reflects my style and personality with a worm cozy feel, a splash of imagination, and a touch of magic. I have earned a Master of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Youngstown State University. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a certified Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist and an Approved Consultant through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). I have also studied the effects of proper nutrition and exercise on mental health and overall wellness, earning an accreditation as a Certified Integrative Mental Health Provider (CIMHP). My continuing studies include Tibetan medicine and herbology. I have worked in mental health treatment providing therapy as a residential and outpatient counselor. My distinctive background includes the study of meditation techniques for over 25 years under several teachers in the United States. I have also traveled to India, Nepal, and Tibet to study ancient traditions of meditation. With a strong understanding of western science, combined with my practice in mind/body experiences, meditative techniques, and the study of nutrition and integrative mental health, I am able to blend these as modalities into my counseling practice. I am also able to share a practical understanding of applying mind, body and spirit to bring about a greater level of wellness and health into the lives of my clients. I offer instruction at a monthly meditation group held at Blue Star Family Counseling Services, Inc. and I assist in EMDR trainings. I have also taught at Youngstown State University and other sites around the local area on meditation and mindfulness. The focus of my clinical work utilizes EMDR Therapy, mindfulness and meditation, nutrition and integrative mental health and I specialize in trauma, substance abuse and addiction, spirituality and religious values, and wellness with adults and adolescents. I hope to see you soon!

I’m a Licensed Supervising Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S), Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Certified Ohio Behavior Analyst, Certified EMDR Therapist and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. I really enjoy working with kids and individuals that have been diagnosed with Autism. In my work, I blend traditional counseling techniques, EMDR, and behavior analytic skills to address each of my client’s unique needs. Together, we can work through past stressful experiences so you feel more confident in becoming who you want to be! I also like working with adults. Watching a client become more comfortable in their skin, and heal from past difficult experiences inspires me to continue to work in this field. If you aren’t feeling great about yourself, and you believe you’re ready for a change, give me a call!

Danielle M. Matos, M.Ed. LSC, LPC
Hello! My name is Danielle and as you can see, my picture is quite different from that of my colleagues at Bluestar! This “school picture” is one of the perks of spending the last 10 years with Kindergarten through 12th graders as a Licensed Professional School Counselor. As a School Counselor, my goal is to help my students navigate their lives to achieve the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to achieve academic success, college and career readiness and social/emotional development in an ever changing, modern society. My students inspire me. So much so, that they inspired me to return to graduate school for a second take and earn my Clinical Mental Health License from Youngstown State University. Working under the supervision of Amber Stiles-Bodnar, MS.Ed, LPCC-S, LCDC III and the Bluestar Team, I hope to earn my Independent License while continuing my passion of working with school age children and adolescents.
While I am super comfortable working with all populations, I have the most experience working with teens and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, peer relationships, high risk behaviors, codependency, and the overall stresses of everyday life that can be so overwhelming for people of all ages. My approach is heavily focused on the therapeutic relationship and providing a safe, comfortable, judgment free zone for all of my clients. I have a special interest in early childhood trauma, its effects on the developing brain, and the behaviors that follow into adulthood if not treated. I am working on my EMDR certification and use the therapy as one of my approaches, but will work closely with my clients to find the best approach for their individual, unique needs.
